The Story Behind “Chosen Generation”
Around 50 years ago, in the mid-1970s, I wrote this song especially for a very large Christian teens' youth gathering I had organized in the Pacific Northwest, hoping to encourage and inspire many to live out lives of dedicated and effective witness for Christ. The song is based on the words of the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:9, which reminds all of us believers that we are a chosen generation of people, called to shine Christ's light of His Gospel and Kingdom to the world. I wrote this song in my personally much-loved musical style of the Byrds.
