"Safe & Secure" is a worship song built on a simple confidence: "Lord, there's never been a friend like You; there's nothing You can't see me through." Through discouragement and every changing season, it leans on Jesus as Prince of Peace and guiding light — safe and secure because His love will "stand the test of time," and the promise of God our Father holds: He will never leave us.
This was a song that I wrote the majority of when I was a young film student in the early 1990s. Admittedly, the chord progression likely bears a striking resemblance to at least several other songs of the era, although I also believe the composition to have a uniqueness of its own. This song says much of what I wanted to say at the time in singing to the Lord. If I had been able to release an album of the songs I had written during that time period, I wanted to call it "Forever Friend," referring to Jesus and containing the song "Mighty Counselor" — which uses that phrase, among other compositions. But this song says "Forever Friend" as well, in a different way. —Dan Parks
